Picture yourself walking along the edge of a 500 foot cliff. That might be rather unsettling, but let’s make it even worse. You’re walking along the edge of a high cliff AND you don’t know anything about gravity. How does that make the scene even scarier? The knowledge of the affects of gravity give you extreme motivation to stay safely away from the edge. But ignorance of the law of gravity could have a devastating impact on your life! Gravity is just one of God’s laws. He has many. These laws are not rules that represent an effort on God’s part to oppress us or take away our fun. They govern the universe, and make the reality of life as we know it possible. The planets orbit the sun, grass grows from grass seed, water flows downhill, and rather than floating off into space, objects remain where we put them, (except of course for car keys). I tend to take these governing laws for granted. And, except for not being able to fly like Superman whenever I want, I’m glad they exist. But I’m able to appreciate them because I’ve learned how to cooperate with them. What if there are governing laws of which we’re ignorant? Remember the high cliff? Even if we’re ignorant of the law, it still impacts our lives! For example, the Bible teaches us there are spiritual laws that govern Satan, the demons, death, angels, spiritual warfare, salvation, healing, finances, etc. How familiar are you with these governing laws? Here’s one. GOD INHABITS PRAISE. Fill you mind and mouth and home with praise and God will live there. God’s light, love, peace, wisdom and freedom will inhabit you and radiate through you! The negative alternative should be unsettling. Where there is complaining and self-pursuit, God will not dwell. Our minds, mouths and homes will be inhabited by darkness, fear, oppression and lies. Jesus knew the governing laws and obeyed His Father. He then had authority to heal the sick, raise the dead, and calm the storm. He said we could do it too. I’m confident the power in our lives, as well as the peace in our homes, would grow with our obedience to God’s spiritual laws. Try it and see!
